ATLANTA (CNN) -- Wildfires, tornadoes, mudslides and floods -- some of the worst weather has to offer. Since late last year, it seems news outlets have had a wealth of such disaster stories.
But while the weather events themselves are a bit extreme, so is the coverage each gets.
Forecasting tools, like Doppler radar, are continuously refined, which means weather officials have more lead time to warn the public -- through the media -- about potentially catastrophic events.
