It's been a soggy 2012 in Miami. And there's a good chance it will become the city's wettest year on record.
Through Oct. 6, the official observing site, Miami International Airport, has recorded 82.21 inches of rain so far in 2012. That's the wettest year to date on record, and just over seven inches shy of the all-time record for an entire calendar year at that location.
In records dating to 1911, the annual rainfall record for Miami is 89.33 inches set in 1959.
That means another 7.12 inches of rain would be enough to break that record. Interestingly, the average rainfall from Oct. 7 through the end of the year is 10.00 inches.
So even if Miami only receives just under three-fourths of its average rainfall for the rest of 2012, it will still break that all-time record.
