Severe Thunderstorms Possible in Virginia

Severe thunderstorms could hit central Virginia this afternoon and evening as a cold front moves across the region, the National Weather Service says.
“A few of the storms may become severe...with the main threat being damaging wind gusts,” the weather service said in a statement. “Locally heavy downpours are also possible.”
The forecast applies to most of central Virginia and all of the Richmond area.
Today's forecast calls for cloudy skies and a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon, with a high near 74 degrees.
The rain should move out overnight, leading to sunny skies Tuesday and a high near 69 degrees.
Wednesday should be mostly sunny with a high near 71 degrees.
Partly sunny skies are in the forecast Thursday, when the high is projected at 76 degrees.
Rounding out the work week, Friday should bring a 30 percent chance of showers with a high near 73.
