Deadly Night Tornadoes
Night tornadoes also known as nocturnal tornadoes are particularly deadly because they happen at night when most people are not watching tv or able to seek shelter if need be. This makes them one of the most deadly weather phenomenon.
"According to a study done by Northern Illinois University, the fatality rate from nocturnal tornadoes has actually increased in the past century, while the fatality rate from daytime tornadoes has decreased. Researchers found that tornadoes during the overnight period are 2.5 times more likely to kill as those occurring during the daytime hours."
The weather center says that being prepared for nocturnal tornadoes is a good idea. This can be achieved by having flashlights handy and by having a radio on hand.
