Snow, Colder Temperatures Plunge into Rockies and Midwest

OverlayAfter a taste of spring to end this past week, the Rockies and Midwest are flipping to a wintry feel as colder temperatures dive south the next couple of days. In fact, there will be just enough cold air in place to result in wet snow accumulations in parts of these regions.

Below are the forecast summaries for the regions affected by this wintry weather. The maps to the right illustrate the timing and show our 48-hour snowfall forecast.

Rockies, High Plains Snow

  • Sunday night, snow will gradually taper off across parts of the central and southern Rockies.
  • Some snow will also be possible as far south as western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle Sunday night into Monday.

Midwest Rain to Snow

  • As the colder air works in on the back side of this system, rain will likely change over to snow for much of eastern Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan Sunday night.
  • On Monday, a stripe of light accumulating snow may extend along the I-35 corridor from Wichita, Kan., to the Kansas City area.
  • Monday night into Tuesday, rain may change to snow before ending in the eastern Great Lakes, Upper Ohio Valley and central Appalachians.
  • Some light accumulations are expected in the areas mentioned above, but warm April ground temperatures will melt some of the snow as it falls.
