Winter Weather Live Updates: Snow, Colder Temperatures Plunge into Rockies and Midwest

Wet Snow Ahead

This next snow event is lining up for late this weekend in the Rockies, as a plunging cold front is intercepted by a southward dip in the jet stream. Snow or rain changing to snow is expected in parts of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, northern New Mexico, western South Dakota, western Nebraska and northwest Kansas Saturday night into Sunday night. The National Weather Service has issued winter storm alerts for portions of the Rockies that are in effect through Sunday. Accumulating snow is possible in the Denver metro area Sunday. Snow is not unusual during the month of April in Denver. Historically, the Mile-High City has averaged about nine inches of snow during the entire month. At this time, it does not appear that this will be a high-impact snowstorm in the Denver area due to warmer April temperatures. However, mountain locations to the west could see up to a foot of snow. There is some chance that this same weather system could bring snow or rain changing to snow to parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley and northern Great Lakes regions Sunday night into Monday. This includes locations from northern Iowa and southern Minnesota to Wisconsin and northern Michigan. Some accumulations are possible within this corridor, however details are uncertain due to warmer April ground temperatures. Below are the latest minute-by-minute updates from The Weather Channel team of meteorologists, along with National Weather Service offices and posts from social media. The latest updates will appear automatically on top; no need to refresh this page. Times on the left are in Eastern Time; subtract one hour for Central Time, two hours for Mountain Time and three hours for Pacific Time.
