NSW storm brings heavy rain, flash flooding and chaos to Sydney

Abandoned cars in Tempe in Sydney's south after the severe storm early on Wednesday.

Winds of more than 160km/h, snowfall and more than 100mm of rain in NSW storms overnight saw tens of thousands of people without power, passengers rescued from trains and hundreds of travellers stranded at Sydney airport.

While damage is widespread, there have been been no reports of deaths or major injuries.
The storms hit Sydney, the Hunter Valley and the Central Coast regions of NSW.
At Sydney airport, where wind was recorded at 115 km/h, 32 domestic and international services were diverted and more than a dozen cancelled.

Airport crews had to clear the tarmac because of lightning strikes, while flooding in the baggage collection area left some passengers walking around barefoot.
