Tropical Storm Ana continues to strengthen in the central Pacific Ocean. Conditions are favorable for additional strengthening, as wind shear is diminishing and water temperatures are warm and Ana is expected to become a hurricane in the next few days.
It is forecast to move slowly in a northwestward direction over the next couple of days. That path could take it toward the Big Island as a hurricane by Sunday.
Hawaii has already taken a hit from a landfalling tropical cyclone this season. made landfall on the Big Island on Aug. 8, causing extensive damage and power outages.
Tropical Storm Ana formed in the central Pacific Ocean on Monday, over 900 miles east-southeast of Hilo.
