Severe weather generates record-setting December tornado outbreak for Illinois

A series of tornadoes stirred up damage from the Plains to southeast Georgia over the weekend.
A swarm of tornadoes rocked central Illinois on Saturday, making it one of the most violent December days in the state’s history.
There were 26 confirmed tornadoes in the state, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, Illinois. This breaks the previous December tornado record in Illinois of 21, which occurred on Dec. 18-19, 1957
“The actual number of confirmed tornadoes will be determined by storm surveys over the coming days,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rathbun said.
The tornadoes snapped trees and power lines, and shifted one house off its foundation in Macon County.
Around 10,000 customers were without power in the state on Saturday night. This number dropped to below 2,000 on SundayIL Tornado
