| Northeast | Cooler | Cooler |
| Southeast | Warmer | Cooler |
| North Central | Cooler | Warmer |
| South Central | Warmer | Warmer (except south/central TX) |
| Northwest | Cooler | Cooler |
| Southwest | Cooler | Cooler |
Dr. Crawford says, "As we head deeper into the fall and El Nino matures, we expect a continuation of above-average temperatures across the central and western states, with an expanding area of below-average temperatures in the eastern U.S. by October."
The table on the left shows the region-by-region breakdown of temperatures for September and October across the country compared to average.
