Residents of Breezy Point, Brooklyn, Rockaway, and Queens in New York City were startled to see funnels and waterspouts forming over their home and over the water. Tornado's are extremely uncommon in the Eastern States, and a recent storm that swept the east coast formed two tornados very close to eachother. The first tornado touched down in Queens with about 70MPH winds. This is extremely weak, and doesn't even register on the Fujita scale.
The second tornado touched down in Brooklyn with a speed of 110 MPH. Hail was also present in these bouts of severe weather. The severe weather forced the United States Open to delay their start.
