The worst drought in decades is expected over next few months, choking a long area of the plains and rockies that missed remnants of Hurricane Isaac. Lingering rains did give some moisture to Midwestern states with 2-6 inches of rain. Since the region is moving to a climatologically drier time of year, the drought will likely get more intense in coming months. Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, however have gone down in levels of severity in drought. Severity has upgraded in states of the Central and Southern Plains, which is southern South Dakota to northern Texas.
