Two Tornadoes Confirmed in Eastern North Carolina

Survey crews with the National Weather Service confirmed at least two tornadoes hit eastern North Carolina Monday.
NWS says the first twister, an EF2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, hit northwest of Belhaven and near Pantego in Beaufort County. The storm damaged homes, threw a vehicle 50 yards off the road, and left five people injured overall.
The second tornado hit about ten minutes later in Hyde County near Ponzer. The storm was rated an EF1 but did not cause any significant damage.
Investigators are still gathering information on a third possible tornado in the area, this time in the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in Hyde and Tyrrell Counties.
The same storm system caused deadly flash flooding across parts of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia earlier in the day.
