Hurricane Michael: impacts here won't be Lehigh Valley's biggest weather story this week

Hurricane Michael is flexing his muscles, heading for the Florida Panhandle and expected to interact with a strong cold front that will move through the Lehigh Valley later this week.
But it's the cold, not Michael, that will be the bigger story here in the mid-Atlantic region by the weekend.
Around 5 a.m. Tuesday, Michael had maximum sustained winds of 90 mph and its center was located about 390 miles south of Apalachicola, Florida. The Category 1 storm gained new strength over tropical waters, the National Hurricane Center said, and fears continue that it will intensify into a major hurricane before striking Florida's northeast Gulf Coast.
From there, meteorologists say heavy rainfall from Michael could produce life-threatening flash flooding from the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend region into portions of Georgia and South Carolina once it moves inland.
