Midwest and Northeast:
A much drier and cooler air mass sweeps into the region on Friday behind a strong cold front.
The heatwave is a distant memory now as most of the region will be dry with much cooler temperatures surging south out of Canada.
- Scattered thunderstorms are possible from western Nebraska down to western Oklahoma.
- Locally heavy rain is possible for far western Kansas that could cause some flash flooding issues.
- Highs on Friday only in the 50s and 60s around the Great Lakes.
- Highs mainly in the 70s to around 80 in the Plains.
- Frost and freeze tonight over parts of northern Minnesota.
- A reinforcing surge of cooler air keeps temperatures below average into the weekend with highs mainly in the 60s and 70s and lows in the 40s and 50s.
