Tropical Storm Ingrid is poised to deliver a major soaking to parts of the western and southwestern Gulf coast.
Tropical Storm Ingrid Projected Path
Rain Forecast
With relatively weak steering winds aloft, Tropical Storm Ingrid may remain nearly stationary or only drift very slowly, before beginning a northwest motion toward the Mexican Gulf Coast this weekend.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for parts of the Mexican coast. In addition, a hurricane watch is in effect for the area north of Cabo Rojo to La Pesca. Interests along the coast of eastern Mexico should monitor the progress of this storm.
While tropical storm-force winds, higher surf, and rip currents are possible along parts of the Mexican Gulf coast, the most worrisome impact will be heavy rainfall.
A wide swath of eastern Mexico near and inland of the Gulf Coast has the potential to pick up over 10 inches of rainfall, with isolated amounts over 25 inches through next week. This torrential rainfall will produce life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides in these areas, particularly in areas of higher terrain.
Bands of locally heavy rain may rotate northward as far as the southern Texas coast. While much of Deep South Texas remains in extreme or exceptional drought, heavy rainfall on the order of one inch or more per hour may run off quickly, leading to flash flooding. Increased surf and rip currents are also expected along the coast of southern Texas.
