Cyclone Ockhi

At least 12 people have died and more than 200 fishermen needed to be rescued as the powerful Cyclone Ockhi hit India, battering southern states with strong winds and flooding rainfall.

According to the Indian Express, the deaths occurred in the far southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where five and seven fatalities, respectively, were reported.

Officials continued to search for at least 22 fishermen off the coast that remained missing Friday, the Indian Express also reported. Officials said they have been able to rescue more than 200 fishermen after their boats got caught up in the storm, the report added.
