October is beginning with a threat of more localized flooding and severe storms in the upper Midwest where conditions remain saturated after excessive rainfall the last few months.
Parts of southern Wisconsin picked up 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain from Sunday afternoon into early Monday morning as the locally heavy downpours returned.
The rain and thunderstorms this week will be spawned by a few waves of low pressure moving along a front draped over the upper Midwest. Those lows will force the front to waffle north and south across the region this week.
