Deadly Germany Snow Triggers Accidents and Cancels Dozens of Flights

Heavy snowfall and cold conditions have led to at least two deaths as of Sunday. The snow has also caused a handful of road accidents and flight cancellations.

On Sunday, German news agencies reported that an 86-year-old woman died in Uelzen in Lower Saxony due to a care swerving on a slippery road and crashing into a car heading in the opposite direction.

Police have also reported that an 83-year-old man with dementia also passed away due to freezing to death. This took place in Koelleda in eastern Germany. Officers came across his body in the snow on the side of the road near the nursing home he was living in. It is believed that he had gotten lost.

In Frankfurt, the snow storms have caused the cancellation of over 80 flights just on Sunday. All of which were purely weather related. High-speed ICE trains were also ordered to slow down in central and southern Germany due to the snow.
