Learning from Past Weather Events

In the quest to find out about how climate change will influence weather conditions that have major effects on infrastructures such as communication and transportation systems, Hilppa Gregow, head of the Climate Service Centre at the Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki talks to youris.com about how learning from past cases helps researchers define what is meant by extreme weather event, as part of the EU-funded RAIN project.

The European Union supports the RAIN (Risk Analysis of Infrastructure Networks in response to extreme weather) foundation's goals to address system, land and transport vulnerability, hazard identification, and energy consumption. Their latest event has been learning from the past to prepare for future extreme weather occurrences.

With the help of meteorological re-analyses and climate models this organization looks at past and future climate to help understand our current situations.
