Light rain showers are falling across Sierra and Sequoia national forests and into Kings Canyon, which will be a big help to firefighters battling the 138,000-acre Rough fire.
National Weather Service radar shows a large area of moisture falling across the Valley and into the mountains, including the Rough fire area. At higher elevations showers are heavy enough to produce .25 of an inch.
At midday, the rainfall was spread from Bakersfield to Merced and as far east as Mammoth Lakes. Christine Riley, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Hanford, said .02 inches of precipitation had fallen on the blaze and more moisture was expected through Tuesday.
Temperatures are also cooler, which also helps the 3,200 firefighters battling the Rough fire, as containment has now grown to 40 percent for the blaze.
