Two weather systems will combine to produce severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rain from Friday through Sunday. The first will produce severe thunderstorms from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes region Friday and Saturday.
The second system, that has been producing flooding rain across much of Texas, will weaken and lift northeastward by the weekend. Moisture from this system will interact with the northern system and enhance rainfall across the eastern U.S.
The result will be the progression of thunderstorms eastward. Some thunderstorms will turn severe and they will produce large hail and damaging winds.
The overall tornado threat is relatively low but isolated tornadoes are possible.
Meanwhile, a disturbance in the subtropical jet stream that has been producing heavy rain across much of Texas this week, will move northeastward and weaken.
Moisture from this system will be pulled northward and it will interact with the northern system. This will enhance rainfall totals in the eastern U.S. so some locations will see heavy rain, along with the threat for severe thunderstorms.
