Britain set to be warmer than Athens and Madrid

After temperatures plummeted to below freezing last week, it looked like Britain was on course for a white Christmas. But this week, the country is expecting unseasonable weather – making some parts warmer than Madrid or Athens. Incoming cloud is due to trap warmth and temperatures are expected to rise to 15C in some parts  a massive leap from the -9.7C recorded last week. The UK average for December last year was just over 5C in the south and 3C in the north. But forecasters say the warm weather will bring heavy rain and high wind speeds in the west, while the rest of the country will also see some light rain. Tuesday is set to be dull and overcast with areas of fog during the morning lifting to low cloud through the day. Meanwhile Wednesday is due to be windy, but largely dull and overcast, with further outbreaks of rain in the north and drier weather in the south, according to Meteogroup UK.
