November was a record breaker

Wonder no more. It’s on its way.
But first, the good news.
November was the warmest November in Regina since records were kept in 1883, said David Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. “On so many fronts, it was just unbelievable,” Phillips said. “It takes a lot for me to be surprised and shocked by weather and it wasn’t just one corner of the province. Regina, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert and Estevan — these all broke new records for the warmest November on record.”
Saskatoon had the second-warmest November on the books. Some records, such as those kept in Regina and Saskatoon, go back to the 1880s. Normally, the daytime high in November for Regina is 0.1 degree. The average normal low is -10.5 degrees and the average normal for the month is -5.2. This past November, the average high was 8.4 degrees, the average low was -4.2 and the average temperature was 2.1. “On all accounts, they were records,” Phillips said. Previously, the warmest afternoon November temperature in Regina was eight degrees in 1904. The warmest minimum temperature record was -4.8 degrees set in 1899 and the previous warmest average temperature was 1.4 degrees — also set in 1899. “Every day during the month was warmer than normal,” Phillips said. “There were six what we call all-freeze days when the temperature is below freezing morning, noon and night, but they were barely below freezing.” Normally, Regina sees 15 all-freeze days. “You saved about 35 per cent on your home heating bills … Not only could you enjoy it, but you were actually saving money,” Phillips said. “The other thing that was spectacular to me was Nov. 9.”
