Sea Levels Rising Faster in Southeastern U.S.

Researchers at the University of Florida have noticed sea levels have risen 6 times faster than average globally. According to their study, sea levels between North Carolina and Florida have drastically risen between 2011 and 2015 due to a combination of natural factors, climate change, and other human caused factors. The researchers found that the natural factors include El Niño and North Atlantic shift in atmosphere pressure over the ocean. A researcher at University College Dublin, Andrew Parnell stated that if sea levels continue to increase at this rate, or even faster than what is predicted of the future from long and short-term trends, it can be a big problem for coastal cities very soon. If tidal ranges begin to increase as a result of sea levels rising, it can mean flooding and extreme rainfall for the future as well.
