Too cold for comfort

The 7AM observation this morning at O’Hare International Airport was a -1 degree – the first time that site has recorded a sub-zero reading since a -9 degrees was registered back on February 10, 2011. Scanning the list of regularly-reporting hourly stations around the Chicago area finds the lowest reading a -5 at Waukegan.

Winds died off early this morning, so wind chill values ran mostly in the negative teens – the coldest at O’Hare has been a -15 degrees and the lowest overall a -19 degrees at DeKalb and a -18 degrees at Waukegan, Wheeling and Aurora.
