Hail was reported Tuesday across the southwest suburbs, including Shorewood, Joliet, Downers Grove and Woodridge.
"We've had numerous reports of hail, anywhere from ¼" in diameter, a couple of spots have reported ¾" diameter as these storms moved out of Will County and into DuPage County," ABC7 Meteorologist Mike Caplan said. Storms are developing along a warm front as it moves northward through the Chicago area on Tuesday. Brief heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and hail are all possible, Caplan said.
By late morning, temperatures had soared into the mid-60s at Midway and in northwest Indiana as the warm front lifted north through the area. Temperatures at the lakefront and along the North Shore remained in the high 40s and low 50s.
Earlier Tuesday, thick fog reduced visibility during the morning commute.
