Tropical Storm Ana Moving Away From Main Hawaiian Islands

Storm Information
Tropical Storm Ana is weakening and continues to move away from the most populated areas of Hawaii. As of 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Ana has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving west.
For most of Monday, Ana's maximum sustained winds hovered just below the 74-mph threshold for hurricanes. The heaviest rain associated with Ana has moved out of Kauai and Niihau as Ana's center continues to move to the northwest into the mostly unpopulated northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
Hurricane Ana was downgraded to a tropical storm Sunday afternoon as it passed southwest of Hawaii, sideswiping the island chain with heavy rain and high surf.
Ana made its closest approach to the Big Island of Hawaii when it was 155 miles southwest of Kailua-Kona at 5 a.m. EDT Saturday. On Sunday, Ana passed within 90 miles of the south coast of Kauai.
Hurricane Ana had been upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane on Friday when it was in an area of favorable conditions (very warm water and a decrease in wind shear) in the central Pacific Ocean.
