Minor tidal flooding reported Monday morning

Minor tidal flooding is impacting portions of the Jersey Shore Monday morning. 

Gary Szatkowski, lead forecaster at the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, NJ, reported a two foot surge along the Atlantic coastline during the mid-morning high tide. 

The bay backs are in the process of cresting late morning, he tweeted. 

"This morning's high tide is the higher of the two high tides today," Szatkowski tweeted, adding that the next high tide to monitor for coastal flooding is during Tuesday morning. 

Police in West Wildwood reported a "significant increase" in tidal flooding on streets within its jurisdiction, requiring the closure of the George Redding Bridge, which connects Wildwood with the Garden State Parkway.

In addition to tidal flooding, Szatkowski reported beach erosion due to ocean breakers in the six to eight foot range.

Anyone with a vehicle parked in a tidal area that is prone to flooding should move it to higher ground prior to Tuesday, a Coastal Flood Watch bulletin warns.
