Slushy Snow enroute; Winter Storm WATCH all WNY late Tue Night

Slushy Snow enroute; Winter Storm WATCH all WNY late Tue Night

Here is the latest 4Warn Weather Forecast from Meteorologist Don Paul:
A Winter Storm WATCH includes All WNY from Late Tuesday Night through Late Thursday Night.
A Winter Storm WATCH (not yet a Warning) will be in effect for all 8 WNY Counties from Late Tuesday Night through Late Thursday Night. There is the chance slushy snow accumulations will exceed 6″ in the Watch area during a prolonged period of moderate snow. The best chance for the heaviest accumulations will be at higher elevations. However, it appears enough snow will fall even at lower elevations to make for slippery travel across the region.
Tonight we’ll stay dry and temperatures will be considerably milder than last night. On Tuesday, an area of low pressure approaching from the west will help draw a low over the Atlantic toward the NJ/NY coast. The moisture from the coastal system may begin to reach WNY Tuesday afternoon and will be here by Tuesday night in the form of a light rain/wet snow mix, probably turning to all snow before midnight. Some minor slushy accumulation will develop toward Wednesday AM. A N to NW breeze will begin to increase. By later Wednesday evening into Thursday AM, the rate of snowfall may begin to increase farther west to Niagara & Erie counties where significant accumulations may be possible. An element of uncertainty exists as to how much melting of the accumulated snow will occur due to its slushy nature. However, it is possible areas N & NE of the City could see 6-10″ from Wednesday through Thursday and some hills in Southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua, and northern Cattaraugus Cos may see 9-12″. The snow should gradually diminish in coverage and intensity later Thursday and Thursday evening. Friday will be cool and drier. The warming for this coming weekend will be delayed and lessened by the very slow movement of the coastal low, but reading should be seasonable/near 40 for the Bills game.
TONIGHT; Mostly Cloudy & Seasonably Mild. Low: 28 hills-33 lakeshore. SSE: 10-17, but much gustier at the Chautauqua County shoreline, near Dunkirk..
TUESDAY; Mostly Cloudy with a midday high near 40.Chance of sprinkles or flurries in the afternoon. Light rain or rain mixed with wet snow will arrive in the evening and turn to all snow later in the evening. Some minor slushy accumulation will be possible, mainly to the east and NE of the metro area. Low: 30.
WEDNESDAY; Periods of Snow with some accumulation near Lake Erie and along the Lake Ontario shoreline, but several inches more likely at higher elevations as well as over the interior of Niagara, Orleans & Genesee Counties, possibly becoming heavier in the afternoon. High: 29-32.N to NW breeze increases to 15-22. Periods of snow Wednesday night with additional accumulation in the Watch counties, and with some increase in accumulations possible to the west. Snow may accumulate more rapidly on the hills of Southern Erie & parts of the the southern tier hills. Snow will be steadier Wednesday night, with additional accumulations.
THURSDAY; Periods of Snow heaviest into at least early afternoon, with additional accumulation likely. Amounts may increase in Erie and Niagara Counties into early afternoon, with highest totals on the hills south of the metro area but significant amounts possible farther north as well. Snow will begin to diminish in intensity later in the day and into the evening. High: low 30s.
FRIDAY; Limited sunshine with scattered lighter snow showers. Breezy but not quite as cold. High: 35.
SATURDAY; Partly Sunny. High: 38.
SUNDAY; Partly to Mostly Cloudy. High: 41.
MONDAY; Partly Sunny and milder. High: 43.
