Strange cloud formation seen throughout Ventura County an unusual phenomenon
People throughout Ventura County reported seeing a round formation in a cloud Tuesday that forecasters say is a rare phenomenon.
The round hole in a layer of clouds up high in the atmosphere with wispy streaks coming from the center of it, called a fallstreak hole by experts, set social media abuzz.
One of those who saw it was Rene Guajardo, of Ventura. He was working about 3:30 p.m. at Channel Islands Landing in Oxnard when he saw the formation, took a photo and sent it to his wife, Angela Guajardo.
Joe Sirard, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, said the Guajardos weren't the only people interested in the cloud pattern. Many took to social media to ask forecasters what could be causing the hole.
