Winter Storm Delphi will continue to cause major travel problems on Tuesday, one day after nearly 400 accidents – two of which were fatal – were reported in Minnesota alone.
By Tuesday morning, Delphi had dumped 9 inches of snow in some spots, with more on the way. As a result, many schools were closed in the High Plains and Upper Midwest.
"A large and slow-moving low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere that has been stuck over the West the last few days will finally move east across the Midwest through midweek," said weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce. "With sufficient cold air in place, parts of the Upper Midwest region will see 6 to 12 inches of snow by the time the storm is finished early Wednesday. This snow could lead to dangerous travel conditions in the region, particularly in locations where snowfall rates of an inch or more per hour occur."
