Last few winters were so severe that train services have been shut down many times throughout the winter. This year is not looking any different as south shore lines are preparing for days where they will not be running.“If we see actual air temperatures at 15 or 20 below (zero), where it’s getting dangerous to be outside, we’re going to consider whether operating our service is advisable,” Noland said. By having service in weather that is below those temperatures, they are putting a lot of risk on the passengers. Coming off a winter where the weather was so cold that many jobs cancelled so that people would not have to go outside and commute to work. Especially if ice is apparent on the train tracks, it may cause the train to have a difficult time stopping which puts more people in danger. Seeing how another polar vortex is coming, this article suggests for people to take caution and prepare for a cold winter as well as prepare for the trains to shut down and have a second option when it comes to commuting.
