With all the crazy weather that we have been having here in United States lately , one would think that we are one of the countries who have the most fatalities that are weather related. Considering this is recorded over the past two decades, that would account for a lot of terrible hurricanes including hurricane Katrina which was one of the most deadly and damaging event that happened in the US history. However, the US has had it easy when it comes to deadly weather compared to other countries in the world and the US does not even crack the top 10 countries in the world with the most fatalities over the past two decades.

Data suggests that the poorer countries are getting hit with much more severity. Myanmar which tops the list of most fatalities due to severe weather, was hit by Cyclone Nargis back in 2008 which killed 140,000 people and displaced 2.4 million more. By looking at the graph below, you can see just how big the difference in fatalities is between the first ranked country which is Myanmar and the second ranked country which is Dominica. Theres almost a 10 million difference which is kind of ridiculous to think about how many people died in Myanmar from weather related events alone. Some people never recovered after that Cyclone which had a lingering effect so there was most likely  a lot of deaths after the fact that are not shown on that graph.
