Bizzarre Weather Hits New York

Tornados are not usually common in New York, but on September 9, two tornados touched down within a close vicinity of each other.  The first tornado touched down on the beach of Breezy Point in Queens.  The second hit the Canarsie neighborhood in Brooklyn at around 11:30 am shortly after the first hit Queens.

The tornados picked up dumpsters, picnic tables, and chairs and carried them a short distance away.  It also tore the roof off of a cabana at Breezy Point.  Many were out of power over night, and one fatality was caused by the tornado.

Thirty minutes after the tornados hit, the weather was sunny and beautiful.  Weather teams warned New York residents about the storm only 30 minutes before the first storm hit, so many residents were taken by surprise.  The storms however, were predicted to be severe, bringing strong winds, thunder, and heavy rain to several regions along the east coast.  As a result of these severe storms, four were killed in upstate New York
