The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Orleans Parish, including the grounds of the New Orleans Jazz Fest, and much of southeastern Louisiana. On Saturday at 12:25 p.m, the National Weather Service was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Destrehan, west of New Orleans.
"Half-inch hail and winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with this storm," the National Weather Service said. "Those attending Jazz Fest are in the path of this storm and should prepare for imminent dangerous weather conditions."
The threat of severe weather is expected to diminish Saturday evening.
The most recent Weather Service forecast puts the chances for showers and thunderstorms in the New Orleans area on Saturday afternoon and evening -- Day 2 of the 2015 New Orleans Jazz Fest -- at 40 percent.
