Pekin, Illinois: ‘Utter Destruction’ After Tornado Touches DowA tornado was spotted on the ground in Frankfort, Ill., and the weather agency said it is moving to East Chicago.

“Tornado ON THE GROUND near Frankfort, moving northeast at 60 mph. Areas in the path of this storm take cover now!” the National Weather Service wrote at around 1 p.m.

Frankfort is located southwest of Chicago.

There were also 75 mph wind gusts registered in Oak Lawn, a suburb or Chicago.

“Mom says sky is BLACK northwest of Frankfort. Be careful Chicago folks,” one local said.

Another local wrote on Twitter that there appeared to be no damage done. 

“It was nasty but no real damage in our immediate area even though tornado touchdown was somewhere in Frankfort,” he said.

However, there were reports of high winds in the area.
