Burke Lakefront Airport gets $5.2 million to repair Hurricane Sandy damage

Hurricane Sandy struck Northeast Ohio hard, including the shoreline of Burke Lakefront Airport.
The city-run airport got word this week that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded Cleveland $5.2 million to repair storm damage to Burke's coastal fortifications along Lake Erie.
The money will cover 75 percent of the estimated $6.9 million cost to restore 3,300 feet of the sloping stone barrier -- the technical term is "revetment" -- that's designed to absorb the impact of crashing waves and prevent erosion.
