Big Storm Hits Italy with Force

Strong winds toppled huge trees in the Tuscany region in Italy on Thursday.
The Florence Airport at Peretola clocked an 81-mph wind gust at 6:20 a.m. local time Thursday during a three-hour period in which gusts exceeded 60 mph. Wind gusts also topped 60 mph at times in Pistoia, Italy, according to a Wunderground weather station in the area.
According to Italian news site Gazzetta del Sud online, the storm also brought snow to higher altitudes and heavy flooding to the plains and coastal area of the country.
