Brush Fire and Winds Create Tense Moments in Miami-Dade County

A tense evening in Miami-Dade County, Florida, as high winds and high temperatures create unstable conditions around a brush fire. The Grand Lake Fire started Sunday in West Kendall, a Miami suburb. The fire originally calmed overnight, but hot spots picked up again Monday, according to the Miami Herald. By Monday, the fire had grown to 1,000 acres, WTVJ reports.
Monday’s weather was not working in firefighters’ favor, with temperatures in the high-80s and low-90s, and winds gusting up to 26 mph at times, weather.com meteorologist Linda Lam said.
"Our worst enemy at this point are high winds," Miami-Dade Fire spokesman Arnold Piedrahita told WTVJ. "It can kick up this fire and flare up at any time now."
As many as 10 structures were threatened, including the Lincoln Marti Daycare, CBS Miami reports. The 25 students were moved to another school.  The Pit Bar-B-Q restaurant on SW 8th street were also told to leave the business as a precaution. Florida Forest Service said it was 50 percent contained.
