Severe thunderstorms are drenching the Gulf Coast and morving into the East Coast after severe weather swept across the south on Sunday, damaging trees, taking out powerlines, and killing one.

A tornado watch is in effect for parts of southern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, northern Virginia and eastern West Virginia until 10 p.m. Monday. Parts of northern Georgia, South Carolina and western North Carolina are under a tornado watch until 8 p.m.

Two severe thunderstorm watches are in effect for parts of the Southeast Monday afternoon. Many severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued since mid-morning, and more watches and warnings are expected as storms develop farther north into the Mid-Atlantic.
