Storm to Bring Flooding Threat to Japan Early Next Week

A pair of storm systems will bring repeated rounds of rain to much of Japan from Sunday into Wednesday.
The result of these storms will be daily travel delays, impacting cities such as Kumamoto, Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo.
The rain will be heavy enough to at times raise the risk for flash flooding, especially in urban areas.
The heaviest rainfall is expected to impact the Greater Tokyo Area on Monday and then again Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.
Rainfall totals of 75-150 mm (3-6 inches) are expected from eastern Shikoku through eastern Honshu including the Greater Tokyo Area.
While flooding will be the greatest risk associated with this heavy rainfall, mudslides are also possible across the rugged terrain of southern and central Japan.
