Lando intensifies further, interacts with new typhoon

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Typhoon Lando intensified further as it threatened the provinces of Aurora, Isabela, and Northern Quezon on Saturday (October 17).
It was spotted 230 km east of Baler, Aurora, packing winds of 175 kph, as of 4 p.m.
State weather bureau PAGASA's acting Director Espie Cayanan warned that Lando might stay longer in the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) because it was interacting with Typhoon Champi, which was spotted outside the PAR.
"Habang hindi siya [Champi] tumataas at lumalayo, hindi makakagalaw si Lando," she said.
[Translation: "Lando won't be able to move away as long as (Champi) remains near it."]
It was likened to the weather conditions of 2009's Typhoon Pepeng, but PAGASA hoped it wouldn't be as devastating.
The rainfall was expected to be heavy to intense within the 650 kilometer diameter of the typhoon.
Lando is expected to make a landfall over Aurora area by Sunday morning (October 18).
