Food Costs Rising due to Severe Weather

The extreme drought in U.S. states is causing an increase in costs for certain food products, such as beef, pork, vegetables and nuts.
It "has caused a shortage in vegetables grown in California, which produces more than 90 percent of the nation's select vegetables. The limited supply will increase costs from 5 to 20 percent." Therefore, the once easy meals to buy and prepare will be a costly treat.
There is a drought in Oklahoma as well which is not helping their severely low amount of cattle. Also, other animals, like pigs, are having serious health problems due to the lack of precipitation.
"Most people recognize weather has a big hand in food production," Tonsor said. "What they might not recognize is the actual location of food production around the country and therefore how weather across the country impacts the food prices they see."
