ODILE THREATENS FLASH FLOODING WHILE EDOUARD MAY IMPACT AZORES

Major CAT 3 Hurricane EDOUARD (the first ATL Basin major hurricane since Sandy in 2012) is passing well east of Bermuda this morning with sustained winds near 100Kts. SAT imagery shows a well defined eye wall within a CDO (Central Dense Overcast) - and was 1 of several reasons that NHC upgraded EDOUARD to a Major CAT 3 Hurricane. As well projected for the past week, the storm will soon be recurving northeast and then eastward over the next 3 days as the storm moves around the western periphery of the mid-level Ridge to the east of the storm and then gets caught up in the mid-latitude westerlies. With the storm still over very warm waters, some additional strengthening is possible today – but that should end overnight as the storm starts moving over progressively cooler waters. As was excellently predicted by the GFS since last week – the storm may reach the Azores this weekend as a tropical storm.
