Severe Weather Threatens the South

Below is the latest on the severe weather situation right now and the severe weather forecast
Right Now:
  • tornado watch has been issued until 1 p.m. CDT for southeast Louisiana and far southern Mississippi, including New Orleans and Biloxi.
  • A line of severe t-storms will continue to spread from southeast Louisiana into far southern Mississippi this morning with the main threats being damaging straight-line winds, flooding rainfall, and brief tornadoes. 
  • Over 150,000 Entergy customers are without power in Louisiana as of 12:00 p.m. CDT.
  • According to the Louisiana DOTD, I-10 westbound was closed Monday morning between exit 115 and exit 127 due to fallen trees.
  • The National Weather Service in New Orleans says that a tornado was spotted near Thibodaux, Louisiana by local sheriff's office personnel and there have also been reports of roofs off houses in the area.
  • A 70 mph wind gusts was measured at the New Orleans airport around 10:30 a.m. CDT.
  • Train cars were blown off the Huey P. Long Bridge in Elmwood.
  • The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is closed due to the storms moving through the area NOLA.com reported.
  • The New Orleans Naval Station reported a tornado moving northeast at 10:44 a.m. CDT.
  • Trees and/or power lines have been downed in Louisiana this morning, including Vernon, Acadia, Lafayette, Calcasieu, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, St. Martin, Vermilion, Terrebonne, Iberville, Lafourche, Pointe Coupee and St. Mary Parishes.
  • Widespread trees were downed early Monday in northern Trinity County, Texas. Trees were also downed blocking roads in Huntsville, Texas.
  • Teams from NWS-Fort Worth will survey damage in southern Johnson County, Texas, including Rio Vista, Texas, later today.
