Alabama About to be Slammed
There are reports that there is potential for significant severe weather in Alabama. Rain and storms are happening currently, but into the night, there appears to be more potential danger. Tornadoes, hails, heavy rain, and strong winds are all possible to hit Alabama. Numerous severe storms are all possible throughout the state. Scattered severe storms, numerous severe storms, and isolated strong storms are all reported in numerous areas in Alabama. Supercell storms could form across western Mississippi and flow into Alabama. The warnings and watches have been reported to last until 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Unfrozen Bridge Prevents Travelling
Dawson City thrives on the traveling of a frozen river. But this year, the river has frozen upstream. More than 100 people live off the gird and rely on the frozen river to travel. In the summer, ferries help with the traveling, but during the winter, they rely on the ice bridge. Since the river has frozen upstream, over 100 people are now stocking up and running low on storage. The weather has been relatively warmer so the freezing is not in sight. Some people are walking a few kilometres to travel across the frozen sections. It has added more than two hours to traveling on a toboggan. Some people have considered moving due to the inconvenience.

Tokyo Receives Snow First Time in 54 years....in November
For the first time in 54 years, Tokyo has received snow in November. With no preparation for the snow, trains have been disrupted. The last snowfall in November occurred in 1962, since records began in 1875. "Today's snowfall and accumulation occurred because several elements came together at once by chance," said Sakiko Nishioka, an agency official in charge of weather forecasting. The area near mountains saw greater amounts of snow, but central Tokyo received snowfall approximately one-inch. 47 people were injured according to local media, including a man who broke his wrist falling on an icy street.
Three Weather Phenomenons In A Single Photo
Three weather phenomenon have been captured in a single photo. A fog bow, inverse clouds, and a brocken spectre. Katherine Fotheringham was walking up Beinn a'Chrulaiste in Glen Coe. When a person stands appear the surface of a cloud, with the sun behind them creates a broken spectre. A fog bow is a white rainbow which appears in mountains.

Interesting Weather for December
Going into December, the entire nation looks to be affected. "Five or six major storms will affect the nation into the second week of December, according to AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok. The jetstream will intensify and change its set-up. The are from the coastal Northwest to the northern and central Rockies is predicted to receive a storm as well as snow every other day. The storms will reduce the threat of wildfires and extinguish existing ones. "One of two of the storms could strengthen quickly enough and grab enough moisture to bring some rainfall to parts of the central and southern Plains," Pastelok has stated.
Thanksgiving Texas
Just in time for Thanksgiving, a cold front may cause heavy wind, severe thunderstorms, possibly hail, and perhaps a tornado in Houston, Texas. The storms have been said to cause a disturbance in travel plans for Thanksgiving. Austin, Waco, and Dallas-Fort Worth are also expected to experience strong storms. The worst of the storm is predicted to happen during the night, so travel will not be as impacted as strongly.

School Prepares For Warnings
In Plano, a school is showing its reliability on the new NBC S-band radar. The school is showing how dependent they are on the speed and accuracy of the weather system and their warnings. The school has a mission to secure the students and staff in five minutes at the most. "The 2-year-olds bring their toys and huddle into a bathroom. Teachers have to keep them distracted while singing a happy song. Meanwhile, the 5-year-olds, who have done this before, line up in the hallway." It is unpredictable to know what the children are doing when the warnings come. They practice drills, of various weather warnings, at different occasions on different days.
Arctic Influences Britain (And not just the British band Arctic Monkeys)
Arctic climate might be influencing the weather in Britain. The EU have financed new projects that are involving climate scientists which would help improve weather and climate prediction. APPLICATE which has been funded with 8 million pounds also involves about nine countries. According to this project and several other studies, the warming Arctic could lead to prolonged periods of severe weather and cold spells in the mid-latitudes. "Our aim is to design a future Arctic observing system that enhances our predictive capacity. Additionally, the representation of critical processes in models will be improved and new ways of assimilating observations into models will be explored." The retreat of sea ice, warming seas, and a warming atmosphere have the potential to influence weather and climate in the mid-latitudes.
Tanaki Affected By Winds
Homes and businesses in Hawera, Inglewood, Opunake, Urenui, Eltham, Manaia, Okato, Kaponga, Stratfod, and Rahotu are without power. There has been several severe thunderstorms wreaking havoc across Tanaki. There have also been reports of small tornadoes. The water supply in Opunake and Manaia was not functioning. Winds have been demolished small buildings, such as garages. Powerco estimated power would be restored by Tuesday. Roads have been impassable due to fallen trees and debris.

Ooo it is freezing in these places
Being cold is rarely described as being a pleasurable experience, after all, most people prefer the dogged heat of summer to the biting chill of winter, and yet many people still brave the intense cold all across the country. With how reluctant most people are to brave the frigid air in normal cities, it really makes you wonder how people get by in these, the top 5 coldest cities in the USA.
#5: Caribou, Maine
Seeing as Caribou, Maine is touted as the most Northeastern city in America, it makes perfect sense for it to make this list; after all, anything north is all but guaranteed to be chilly. What really ups the ante for Caribou, however, is that it is both nestled near a natural Reservoir of cold air, and is settled in a river valley, a prime location for cold air to settle.
#4: Jackson, Wyoming
weighing in with an average annual temperature of around 39.4 degrees, Jackson Wyoming is anything but warm. Cold blasts of air blowing in from Canada are to blame for the frigid landscape, and the fact that that Jackson has a freeze every month of the year, even in the summer. It's things like that that make it hard to believe that Jackson is actually a very popular tourist location.
#3: Gunnison, Colorado
considering that the city of Gunnison does manage to reach average highs up to the low 80s in the summer months, it may be surprising to hear that it actually freezes there nearly everyday of the year. Seeing as it is set in Colorado it is unsurprising that it is situated in a mountain valley. The higher elevations, plus the pooling affect of the valley leads to constant low temperatures.
#2: International Falls, Minnesota
As someone who has lived in Minnesota for about two years, I can assure you, it's cold, and no city in Minnesota is prouder of their cutting temperatures than International Falls, proudly referring to themselves as the "icebox of the nation." The city is so cold that when used as a location in the cartoon series "The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show" the city was renamed "Frostbite falls," a much more fitting name.
#1: Barrow, Alaska
I feel like there couldn't possibly be another place for this thread to end. As we discussed earlier: the further north you are, the colder you're going to be, and Barrow Alaska clocks in as the most northern US city; just 5 degrees north of the arctic circle. Barrow really is in a league of its own in terms of chill. a big contributor to this is the 60 days straight of "night" that Barrow receives. this is caused by the sun never rising over the horizon due to the axial tilt of the planet.

More Money, More Forecasting
As the Earth is getting hotter, so is the budget of predicting it. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration invested $6 million into severe weather forecasting systems. The investment will conclude in better prediction models, more experiments in atmospheric temperature, improving forecast with lake and reservoir observations, and etc. "These grants support the transition of some of the most promising tools to improve forecasting," John Cortinas, director of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration director of Research's Office of Weather and Air Quality.

Typhoon Hits Northwest
Over the weekend, tens of thousands of people lost power in Washington and Oregon due to a typhoon. Trees have fallen on top of homes and roads. 34 trees were on the roads of Portland in just three hours. In other parts of Oregon, two tornadoes were seen. One was considered an EF2 twister. In Washington, 40 teenagers and six adults were at Camp David Jr. during an outing. The damage was considered to be severe and heavy. One home was considered to be uninhabitable due to the severe damage caused by the storm. The peak of the storm was 15,000 without power.

Hurricane Nicole Brings Food
After Hurricane Matthew wrecked havoc in Haiti, his girlfriend Hurricane Nicole took her turn in Bermuda. While not as big as Matthew, the hurricane was a potential threat. It was a Category 4 storm at one point, however, it was weakened to a Category 2. Winds went up to 115 miles per hour on the island. As a result, 27,000 people were without power. In one of the island's largest hotels, 120 people were secured in a safe ballroom. Luckily, they were provided a free lunch.
Shocking Floods in Ukraine
In Odesa, Ukraine, a state of emergency has been declared in the region due to a severe storm. The storm has had monster flooding and power lines have been knocked down. Waves have been reported to have gone up to two meters with people being severely encouraged to stay home. Three people have been reported to have died. One of the fallen ones was an 11-year-old boy. The boy was electrocuted when a power line fell over into water. Thousands are still without power and trees are blocking roadways and affecting traffic.

Florida Will Be Next Victim For Matthew
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/weather/hurricane/article105837727.html
Florida has been issued watches throughout the Eastern Coast and across multiple counties in preparation for Hurricane Matthew. Specialists say that it needs to be taken seriously and that the no matter how the Hurricane changes, Florida will feel an impact. Hurricane Matthew has been devastating Haiti. There have been multiple mudslides and rivers flowing over their banks. Three children and an senior citizen have died in the Dominican Republic. Once Matthew heads towards Florida, the hurricane should be a Category 3, perhaps even Category 4 once it hits. The Governor and specialists have urged the residents to prepare and to brace for impact.

Oklahoma's Dryline Could Bring a Big Line of Water
In Oklahoma, dry season is underway. Throughout the middle of Oklahoma, there is a dryline, that is normally seen in the spring, forming. This will affect Oklahoma's severe weather season. This dryline has given Oklahoma a strong chance of severe thunderstorms in the middle and western parts of the state. The storm is said to bring winds that go about 70 miles per hour. Another devastating feature will be hail the size of tennis balls at maximum size. There is also the threat of tornadoes being formed, although this is said to be a very low chance in a narrow time gap for Tuesday.

South Australia Falling Victim To Storms
Southern Australia is becoming beckoned with water. The city of Port Pirie has been flooded. The town of Sevenhill has been warned of their dam weakening. Victoria, New South Wales, the ACT, Tasmania, and South Australia have all received severe weather warnings. The storm is reported to be one of the worst in 50 years. 80,000 lightning strikes have been reported with 22 transmission towers flying from the ground. 30,000 residents are without power, with the threat continuing in South Australia. Winds ranging from 50 to 140 km/hr have been reported. Sea levels have been reported to be slightly rising. Combining with the wind conditions shall result in coastal erosion and damage.

Paraguay Under Water
Paraguay is in a State of Emergency after flooding has forced around 100,000 people to evacuate. It is the worst flooding in decades for the area. In the capital, Asuncion, the water level has reached 26 feet, the record level since 1992. It is due to rain and swelling rivers. The government aid has not been reaching people in time, and people have had to dip into their savings, if they have any.
There was no official death report, however, the locals have stated that people have been electrocuted and several were killed by falling tress.

Meranti's MerWrath
Meranti, a devastating storm. One of the most powerful cyclones in recorded history of the Northern Hemisphere. The storm reached it's greatest strength at 190 miles per hour. On the other side of the world, only one hurricane has reached 190 miles per hour which would be Hurricane Allen. The ar pressure surrounding the storm reached below 900 millibars. The storm's eye fortunately was not hitting landfall, so the worst was avoided. But the same cannot be said for the island of Ittbayat, which was completely engulfed in the eye. the devastation was almost $5 million United States Dollar for the tiny island which has a population of 3,000 people. Meranti has claimed 14 people and over 1,600 homes.
