Praise Dry Weather

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois farmers are taking to their fields to plant corn and oats.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture cites drier weather for helping farmers. USDA statistics show corn planting in Illinois was 15 percent complete. That's compared to the five-year average of 21 percent by this time in the season. Oat planting was 69 percent complete, slightly ahead of the 65 percent five-year average.
The USDA says there were 4.3 days suitable for field work in Illinois during the week that ended Sunday.
