The strongest hurricane ever recorded pounded Mexico’s southwest Pacific Coast on Friday evening, closing schools and airports, stranding tourists in hotels-turned-evacuation centers, and forcing residents to flee the coast.
Hurricane Patricia, a Category 5 storm, made landfall Friday at 6:15 p.m. CDT near Cuixmala in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph (270 kph), making it the strongest landfalling hurricane ever recorded on Mexico's Pacific coastline.
Daylight Saturday revealed damage in several areas, but no deaths were reported – a miraculous outcome, considering the strength of the storm.
