Category 5 Hurricane Patricia is Strongest Storm on Record in Eastern Pacific

"While most people were sleeping, many meteorologists were awake and looking at the reconnaissance data coming in from the hurricane hunters flying through Hurricane Patricia.
The data observed is jaw-dropping and record-breaking. Category 5 Hurricane Patricia now holds the record for lowest pressure in an East Pacific hurricane. The central pressure of the storm at 3 a.m. ET was 892 mb.
**5am Update**
Patricia now holds the record for strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded. It is worth noting that there have likely been typhoons in the West Pacific that are stronger -- Haiyan for example -- but unfortunately, no reconnaissance planes fly into those storms, so no exact measurements are ever taken.
The storm has measured winds of 200 mph, with wind gusts of 245 mph. Central pressure is 880 mb. This is absolutely unbelievable."
